DrivnBye Will Officially Be Shut Down On 3/31/26
Why We’re Shutting Down
Despite the growth and engagement from the community, we weren’t able to build a sustainable financial path forward. From the beginning, our priority was keeping the app free and accessible for enthusiasts. While that helped the community grow quickly, it also meant that our monthly expenses eventually exceeded our revenue, making it impossible to continue operating the platform responsibly. Because of this, we’ve made the difficult decision to sunset DrivnBye rather than risk compromising the experience or the community that formed around it.
Our Mission
DrivnBye started in 2023 with a simple idea: bring the feeling of community back to enthusiasts. We wanted to build a place where enthusiasts could discover car meets, connect through groups, and give their cards a platform to truly have their spotlight. The inspiration came from my first car meet in Wisconsin, where I noticed something simple but frustrating. Photographers had no easy way to send photos to the owners of the cars they shot. That small problem revealed something bigger: the car community was scattered across platforms, and the sense of connection that once defined it felt lost. DrivnBye was our attempt to bring that community back together in one place.
What We Built Together
In a short time, the community around DrivnBye accomplished things we’re incredibly proud of. Out Patreon grew to 426 supporters, helping fund the initial launch. DrivnBye became the highest rated automotive app with a 4.9-star rating across 800 reviews, and enthusiasts from 65 countries joined the platform. The car meet feature quickly became the heart of DrivnBye, helping enthusiasts discover and organize events. But beyond the numbers, one moment reminded us why we started building DrivnBye in the first place. Using the community and influence around the platform, we helped promote a car meet that surprised a 14 year-old with muscular dystrophy for his birthday. Seeing the community come together to make that moment happen is something we’ll never forget. The video is pinned on our Instagram profile for anyone who wants to watch it. This moment made it all worth it.
The Team
DrivnBye began as a small idea powered by my marketing background and a passion for the automotive community. Over time it grew into a team of 40 contributors, and eventually settled into a tight-knit group of 7 incredibly dedicated members who carried the project forward. While DrivnBye is coming to an end in its current form, the team remains together and has already pivoted toward two new projects we’re excited about building.
What Happens Next
The platform will remain available until March 31st, giving users time to download photos and move any information they want to keep. We will also be shutting down our Patreon, and we want to give a special thank you to every supporter who helped make DrivnBye possible. DrivnBye accounts and community history will remain archived should there ever be a future rebrand or revival of the platform.
What We Learned
Building DrivnBye taught us lessons that will stay with us long after this chapter ends. We learned the importable of finding the right team and protecting those relationships, because sometimes those connections outlive the project itself. We learned that growth without monetization just leads to vanity metrics. And we learned that the process of building should always be fun. Momentum matters. Reputation matters. And sometimes the best thing you can do is fail fast, learn from it, and keep moving forward.
Looking Forward
Despite this shutdown, we still believe strongly in the space. There will always be potential for a platform built for automotive enthusiasts. In many ways, DrivnBye proved that demand exists and helped inspire new ideas in the community. For us, this isn’t the end of building. It’s simply the end of this chapter.
Thank You
We want to thank everyone who helped make DrivnBye possible. Our Patreon supporters, who funded the initial release and helped sustain the platform. The early adopters who helped build the first wave of excitement around the app. The creators and collaborators who believed in the vision. And most importantly, our team, who poured countless hours into building something ambitious for the automotive community.
